Omagh - Heart of County Tyrone
Omagh is the county town of Tyrone, set where the rivers Camowen and Drumragh meet to form the Strule. The town's name comes from the Irish "An Ómaigh" meaning "the virgin plain," and it has served as Tyrone's principal town since the early 17th century.
Omagh is perhaps best known internationally for the 1998 bombing that killed 29 people, the deadliest single incident of the Troubles. The town's response - rebuilding with dignity while maintaining a memorial garden - exemplifies the remarkable resilience and community spirit that defines modern Omagh.
